Conversion of Forest Hillslopes into Tea Fields Increases Soil Nutrient Losses through Surface Runoff

چکیده

The conversion of forest hillslopes into tea fields changes the slope structure, soil properties, and vegetation, which may increase great variations in nitrogen (N) phosphorus (P) losses through surface runoff induce agricultural non-point source pollution, particularly during first years conversion. Therefore, a natural system newly reclaimed were compared to determine land use effects on resulting N P 2013–2016. results showed that bulk density (BD) at all depths saturated conductivities (Ks) higher than system, indicating impacts soil’s physical hydraulic properties. annual volumes ratios significantly (p < 0.05), this increased was largely attributed structure property changes. total (TP), dissolved (DP), particle (PP) concentrations similar two systems, while (TN) due high fertilizer application rates system. percentages (DN) TN (PN) were, respectively, lower associated with erodibility mean (11.07 ± 4.03 kg ha−1 yr−1 1.73 0.19 yr−1) (4.51 0.66 0.78 0.18 yr−1). exponentially correlated both systems; however, coefficients determination (R2) exponential relationship between should be more stable effort dedicated reducing though when are converted fields, three

Nutrient losses in runoff from feedlot surfaces as affected by unconsolidated surface materials

Beef cattle feedlots contain unconsolidated surface materials (loose manure pack) that accumulate during a feeding cycle. The effects of varying amounts of unconsolidated surface materials on runoff nutrient losses are not well understood. The objectives of this study were to (1) compare runoff nutrient losses from feedlot surfaces containing varying amounts of unconsolidated surface materials,...

Carbon and nitrogen losses by surface runoff following changes in vegetation.

Rainfall simulation experiments were conducted on annual grassland and coastal sage scrub hillslopes to determine the quantities of C and N removed by surface runoff in sediment and solution. Undisturbed coastal sage scrub soils have very high infiltration capacities (> 140 mm h(-1)), preventing the generation of surface runoff. Trampling disturbance to the sage scrub plots dramatically reduced...

Nutrient additions to a tropical rain forest drive substantial soil carbon dioxide losses to the atmosphere.

Terrestrial biosphere-atmosphere carbon dioxide (CO(2)) exchange is dominated by tropical forests, where photosynthetic carbon (C) uptake is thought to be phosphorus (P)-limited. In P-poor tropical forests, P may also limit organic matter decomposition and soil C losses. We conducted a field-fertilization experiment to show that P fertilization stimulates soil respiration in a lowland tropical ...

Pesticide Losses in Surface Runoff from Agricultural Fields Using Gleams and Rzwqm

Seepage zones have been shown to be of critical importance in controlling contaminant export from agricultural watersheds. To date, no multipurpose agricultural water quality model has seepage zones incorporated into its process-level representations. We chose to test two widely used models of agricultural water quality, the Groundwater Loading Effects of Agricultural Management Systems (GLEAMS...

Antibiotic losses in runoff and drainage from manure-applied fields

The objective of this research is to quantify the effects of liquid swine manure application on antibiotic and nutrient (N and P) losses via surface runoff and subsurface drainage under a conventional (moldboard plowing) and a conservation (chisel plowing) tillage system. The field experiment is set up at the University of Minnesota Southwest Research and Outreach Center, Lamberton, Minnesota. ...
